I love teaching and learning.
I knew I loved them when I was in third grade, as my teacher danced around the room, showing my classmates and me how to write a cursive L to "Waltz of the Flowers." After some failed attempts to get us to write that L, she pumped up the music, and danced, letting her arm flow into that capital L. For many of us, that was the push we needed. The L suddenly made sense. Even at that young age, I remember thinking that I wanted to be just like her.
Since then, I've really come to appreciate her creativity and flexibility to change her plan so that her students could learn. Now that I'm an educator, I approach teaching and learning the same way.
When I was in college, I got my first taste of traveling when I studied abroad. It was this experience that inspired me to move abroad to continue my education career. Teaching and learning in another culture has taught me more about flexibility than I thought possible! More than that, I have also experienced the power of empathy, and compassion. It's that flexibility, empathy, and compassion that I work to include in every interaction I have with my students, colleagues, and parents. I want to be sure that they all know how loved and supported they are. I love my job.
